Heritage Managment

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Integrated Tourism Development (KITE) Project in collaboration with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Directorate of Archaeology and Museums (DoAM), significant efforts have been made to conserve, preserve, and develop the region's rich cultural heritage. The project has successfully completed conservation and improvement work at six heritage sites, including three historical mosques (Pishmal, Main Kalam, and Udigram in Swat) and two stupas (Shapula in Khyber and Bhamala in Haripur). Additionally, three museums (Mardan Museum, Hund Museum in Swabi, and Chakdara Museum in Lower Dir) have been restored and enhanced. In the second phase, the rehabilitation of 15 flood-damaged archaeological sites is in progress, spanning Swat, Mardan, and Dera Ismail Khan. Furthermore, the Jamrud Fort in Khyber is undergoing comprehensive conservation and development, marking a pivotal contribution to the preservation of heritage in the newly merged districts. To promote night tourism, the KITE project has illuminated key heritage landmarks, including Gor Katri, Peshawar Museum, and Sethi House in Peshawar, with plans extending to Jamal Garhi and Takht Bai in Mardan, making these historical treasures accessible and vibrant even after dusk.

KITE recognize the potential of KP tourism sector to advance prosperity & drive inclusive, sustainable development. Committed to its aim of making KP as "preferred and resposible tourism destination"
